Vietnamese police shut down $25m gambling ring
By Harrison Sayers

Police in the Quang Nam Province announced several men had been arrested in connection with the illegal operation, ranging from the ages of 28 to 33 years old.

Essentially acting as an illegal bookmaker, the gambling ring was placing bets for clients on a US-based gambling site named Bong88.

The local police force claims the operation had received over VND600bn in wagers from its customers and used extortion methods to reclaim unpaid bets.

Both weapons and money worth VND400m were seized from the illegal operation.

In August, inducements were completed in Vietnam against over 90 people, including police officers suspected of being involved in a $426m online gambling ring.

The Ministry of Finance announced in June it will offer football match betting licenses in 2019 to help prevent money going to illegal operators and tackle local illegal gambling operations.
