Since the repeal of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act in May, New Jersey, West Virginia, Mississippi and Delaware have all legalised regulated sports wagering, while Nevada was the only state which previously allowed it.

But Sportradar’s Vice President of Legal and Regulatory Affairs, Jake Williams, told Reuters at the conference four to eight states will "probably be accepting bets" in time for the next NFL campaign.

He added that within two years, there could be a total of 24 US states offering legal sports betting.

Included in that list is the state of Michigan, with State Representative Brandt Iden telling the conference he expects the state to pass a bill to allow mobile gaming in the near future.

However, Iden also told Reuters Michigan would consider introducing integrity fees after "spending significant time with the leagues" – despite the fact they have not yet been implemented by any other regulators.
