According to the AGA-commissioned data, 79% of Americans either support or want to see sports betting in their home state.

On integrity fees, 55% of those polled are against major leagues taking a cut of the market, with 23% in favour and 22% saying they did not know.

There was support for the Supreme Court decision to overturn the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) in May, with 63% approving the move, 18% opposed and 19% not knowing.

The data also shows Americans do not want to see the federal government control sports betting, with 66% saying they want state and tribal authorities to regulate the industry.

Sara Slane, Senior Vice President of the AGA, said: "The results of this research are overwhelmingly clear: consumers want legal sports betting; they believe it should be regulated by state and tribal governments and they don’t think the leagues should get a cut."
