Spain online revenue up 26% for 2018

The treasury reports 52% of its online GGR was made from betting, 34.03% from casino, 11.7% from poker, 1.9% from bingo and 0.15% from contests.

The casino segment saw the biggest increase from 2017, with growth of 38.91% to €237.9m.

Betting on live sports made the most GGR in the betting vertical, with €178m generated for the year.

Contests (TV betting) followed the global trend of declining popularity. In Spain, it dropped 82.15% to €1m.

The treasury also gave figures on companies’ marketing, with €328m spent across the online sector in 2018. That breaks down to €30.9m in affiliation expenses, €13.4m in sponsorship, €116.1m in promotions and €168.1m in advertising.  

The number of active online gamblers grew 5% to 1.47 million , with 833,525 active gaming accounts on a monthly average.

Deposits and withdrawals continued on an upward trend, increasing 54% and 67% respectively.
