Planned picketing spreads across US in support of Las Vegas union
By Nathan Joyes

Across at least eight cities, picketing workers are demanding Station Casinos begins contract negotiations with employees of the Palms Casino Resort which voted in favour of unionising.

The workers at Palms Casino voted to unionise by 84% in April last year, but the company challenged the results.

Workers will be protesting outside a private equity firm, a law firm and Michael Symon’s BBQ restaurant in Cleveland.

In November, Labour regulators found the company had "engaged in unfair labour practices" because it refused to bargain with the union for woker contracts at the Green Valley Ranch Resort, Spa & Casino.

Station Casinos operates in more than 10 casino-hotels in and around Las Vegas. The company has previously clashed with the union.

Geoconda Arguello-Kline, Secretary-Treasurer for the Culinary Union, said: "The federal government has certified our union as the bargaining representative after a free and fair election in which workers voted overwhelmingly in favour of representation. We call on the Palms to begin contract negotiations immediately."
