Macau casinos generate lowest revenue total since September
By Tim Poole

The total represents the biggest year-on-year drop of 2019 so far, ensuring accumulated gross revenue is also 2% down for the calendar year.

Macau’s casino industry began the year with a 5% fall for January revenue but saw 4% growth for February.

March’s figures produced a marginal fall of 0.4%, although April’s total is Macau’s lowest since September.

Analysts have consistently forecasted lower GGR figures for Asia’s gambling hub in recent times; factors range from 2019's casino smoking ban to the volatility of VIP revenue in Macau.

However, GGR had not dipped below around the MOP25bn mark in 2019 until April’s reduced showing.

GGRAsia reports many of Macau’s five-star casino resorts have enjoyed a large volume of bookings for the Labour Day period of 1 May to 4 May; this suggests next month’s figures could be more promising for the gaming sector.
