Indiana Gaming Commission Executive Director Sara Gonso Tait said “it is a tall order” and “there are many factors outside of our control” when questioned at a meeting of the regulatory body.

The law signed in May by Governor Eric Holcomb legalised sports wagering on professional and college sports such as basketball, American football and football, aiming for a launch at the beginning of September.

Betting on esports and amateur athletes under the age of 18 will remain prohibited.

Tait said the whole process of reviewing applications and casinos reaching agreements with vendors and data providers was a long one, which is why there may be a delay.

The Gaming Commission can legally start accepting applications from companies wanting to offer sports betting on 1 July.

The Director did announce it looked more likely sports betting in casinos would be introduced before mobile sports betting, due to certain complications.

The next Gaming Commission meeting is set to be held in August, where a further update of progress will be announced.
