By Matthew Enderby

The illegal casino, run in a house located in a residential section of the city, was found during an undercover operation following a tip-off from locals.

A team of 40 officers from the Department of Provincial Administration shut down the casino and seized gambling paraphernalia, cash totalling more than ฿500,000 ($16,255) and a ledger that showed a daily cash flow of more than ฿1m.

A total of 15 bookmakers were held as part of the arrests and charged under the Gambling Act.

The remaining 101 individuals were detained as punters.

Narong Thipsiri, Director of the Department of Provincial Administration’s investigation team, said it had received information about several gambling dens in the Muang district and would follow up on all leads.
