Interwetten CEO: Esports will not remain at current revenue levels
By Owain Flanders

Speaking on a panel during SBC’s Digital Summit, Beier explained how esports has been one of the “biggest surprises” of the crisis.

He said: “It’s definitely one of the biggest surprises and winners in this crisis in regards to betting revenue.

“Esports now represents around 40% of our GGR (gross gaming revenue) because it is an easy-to-play live event. It’s a couple of minutes long for each half and you can get a stream of it to watch.”

However, while Beier sees the benefits of esports in the short term, he believes revenue will fall again once regular sports return.

Beier continued: “My personal opinion is that as soon as normal sports is back people will really want to bet on this again and move away from esports.

“Mid to long term there will be an increase and some punters will be interested in esports, but if you ask me it will not remain on the revenue level it is on now.”
