Macau’s border re-opening plans stall
By Violeta Prockyte

Macau is suffering from a lack of visitors from the Chinese mainland. Visitors from China fell 69.2% year-on-year, settling on 2.29 million for Q1.

The lack of visitors, especially to casinos and gambling venues, leaves a profound impact on Macau’s economy, and the government is devising plans to invest more in tourism, inviting visitors to stay longer than a day, which is the average.

Due to the border issues, some companies have to step in to help out stranded employees. Melco Resorts & Entertainment, for example, ordered a special flight from Macau to Manilla to return some workers home.
