DraftKings replaces SBTech as Resorts Casino sports betting partner

The launch of the Kambi-powered DraftKings sportsbook at Resorts Casino this week signals the end of a short partnership between SBTech and Resorts, Gambling Insider understands.

Operators using SBTech software went live in New Jersey in early September, with SBTech CEO Richard Carter saying at the time: “I’m delighted to have witnessed the successful launches of our partners in New Jersey and Mississippi in such a short space of time.”

Gambling Insider understands this partnership is no longer in place, however, as DraftKings launched retail sports betting at Resorts Casino this week.

SBTech's deal with Resorts was announced in July, which covered on-property, online and mobile channels in New Jersey. DraftKings is already partnered with Resorts AC for online sports betting. Casinos and racetracks in New Jersey are permitted to have three online sports betting partnerships in place, but must have a physical sportsbook first.

Resorts was previously running its own retail sportsbook via SBTech software, but has now chosen to outsource the operation to DraftKings.

SBTech also agreed an online sports betting partnership with Resorts. Gambling Insider understands this partnership is unaffected by Resorts' decision to outsource its retail sports betting.

DraftKings' retail deal includes 12 betting kiosks, five over-the-counter points of sale and customised digital signage.

Max Meltzer, Kambi Chief Commercial Officer, told Gambling Insider: “We are delighted to have launched the DraftKings sportsbook at Resorts, replacing the casino’s previous on-property book.

“To answer the call of Resorts at relatively short notice, and to do so with the delivery of such an impressive sportsbook space, has further strengthened the partnership between ourselves and DraftKings.

“As all of our retail launches to date have shown, our approach to sportsbook implementation and staff training is second to none.

“We’ll have another opportunity to demonstrate this in Pennsylvania over the coming weeks as we prepare to launch alongside our partners Rush Street and Greenwood Gaming & Entertainment, owners of Parx Casino.”

Gambling Insider reached out to SBTech and Resorts for comment. When asked for comment, DraftKings referred Gambling Insider to its press release announcing the deal and offered no further comment.
