CBS joins DFS market

Mass media company CBS has entered the daily fantasy sports (DFS) market with the launch of its SportsLine DFS product.

CBS joins DFS market

CBS already offers a season-long fantasy sports product and SportsLine, on top of DFS contests, offers insider information, data and expertise to fantasy sports players.

CBS Sports director, daily fantasy sports Grant Gurtin tweeted on Monday: “Excited to [be] a part of CBSSports’ daily fantasy launch. Expecting some overlay in our first contests today.”

Gurtin confirmed that SportsLine is “not planning to have rake any time in the near future”.

CBS follows broadcaster ESPN and internet corporation Yahoo’s moves into the DFS market earlier this year.

It was announced in June that ESPN, which has offered fantasy sports for more than 20 years, had reached an agreement with DFS operator DraftKings that would see DraftKings be the official DFS offering across ESPN’s platforms.

Yahoo enhanced its fantasy sports offering by launching Yahoo Sports Daily Fantasy in July.

David Baazov, CEO of provider Amaya Gaming, said earlier this year that it plans to launch a DFS product in time for the start of the regular National Football League season in September.

DraftKings announced last week it had secured $300m in Series E financing, which it said would in part be used to launch its product internationally, and followed an announcement from fellow DFS operator FanDuel earlier in July that it had secured $275m in Series E financing.
