Macau’s casino employees go on strike
Casino workers in Macau went on strike in order to demand a 5% pay increase, along with new legislation that would benefit trade unions.
The organisation that led the protests, Professionals for Gaming of New Macau, announced that the goal was to direct the government’s attention to the casino worker’s low wages, and make the casinos understand that their budget for wages and salaries needed to be updated due the local economy’s attack of inflation.
Governance of Sands China Limited, operator of Sands Macao, The Venetial Macao Resort Hotel, Sands Cotai Central and The Parisian Macao, announced that they have already decided to raise the salaries of their workers. The operator has also expressed its support for new legislation that would ensure a better regulation of trade union activities. Local legislators Antonio Ng Kuok Cheong and Au Kam San have also articulated their support on the measure.
