Arrests made in illegal Thai gambling operation
Two Singaporean men and two Thai women have been arrested for allegedly running an illegal gambling website in Chiang Mai province.
Immigration Police announced the arrest of four suspects at a house in Chiang Mai’s Saraphee district after receiving a tip-off from local villagers.
The suspects later revealed that they received financing from a Malaysian businessman who hired famous Thai event models, known as ‘pretties’, to host live online sessions to attract customers to the gambling website.
“We requested a search warrant from the provincial court to investigate the house, along with police from Saraphee station,” the police said in a statement. “At the scene, we found the suspects using laptop computers to run an online gambling website and several mobile phones to contact customers. We confiscated all evidence for further investigation.”
Police are investigating the website to track the owner, as well as the money trail for any clues of money laundering.
