Leap Gaming gets green light from Swedish regulator

Swedish customers will soon have access to Leap Gaming’s virtual sports and casino content after it secured a “milestone” certification.

Leap Gaming gets green light from Swedish regulator

Spelinspektionen, or the Swedish Gambling Authority (SGA), has given its go ahead for Leap to make its offering available to operators in Sweden.

The Nordic country is home to multiple big-name brands, including Betsson, LeoVegas and Evolution, to name but a few, and gaining entry to this market only enhances Leap’s existing European footprint.

What’s more, Swedish certification continues Leap’s growth trajectory, coming off the back of several key regulatory developments in recent months, spanning various jurisdictions, such as the Netherlands, Italy and Spain, among others.

But as a market, Sweden has considerable potential. In January, the SGA reported that the proportion of Swedish citizens gambling for money increased by seven percentage points in 2021, with 86% of gamblers playing at home.

However, recent proposals from Sweden’s government would raise the cost of operating in the country. The Ministry of Finance published a memorandum on 7 March that would impose an application fee of SEK 120,000 ($12,046) for a gaming software licence.

The proposal also seeks to double the cost of renewing a licence for commercial online gaming and betting, from SEK 300,000 to SEK 600,000.

Leap claims to be focused on delivering cutting-edge products to the gaming industry worldwide, and by continually securing access in new, regulated markets, the provider is better able to satisfy this commitment.

This also comes after the provider entered into a partnership with Playtech in February, further extending its footprint.
