Spelinspektionen visits UK as part of initiative to strengthen international relations
As part of a plan to work more closely with international authorities, the Swedish Gambling Authority and the Gambling Commission met to discuss responsible gambling and match-fixing.
The Spelinspektionen, the Swedish Gambling Authority, has travelled to the United Kingdom to visit both Sportsradar and the Gambling Commission.
The entourage from the Spelinspektionen consisted of Fredrik Lindquist, AML Compliance Officer; Patrik Gustavsson, Head of the Operations; Samuel Wahlberg and Daniel Bergman, both Investigators.
First, the team visited Sportradar, a sports data and technology company based in London that partnered with the organisation back in March 2022.
Sportradar collects and analyses data for the Spelinspektionen, as well as monitors sports competitions in Sweden to find any suspicious match-fixing activity.
Secondly, the Spelinspektionen visited the Gambling Commission in Birmingham to exchange experiences in regards to regulating gambling and working against unethical sports betting.
On the visit, Gustavsson said: “Exchanging experiences with authorities in other countries in this way is an important part of the work to create good conditions for a healthy and safe gambling market.”
The two authorities discussed how each respective party tackles illegal gambling and how more accessible communication channels can assist in international efforts against this.
On its part, the Gambling Commission explained the current changes the authority is implementing in the form of the White Paper, while the Spelinspektionen reported on its experiences with responsible gaming and mandatory deposit limits.
A spokesperson for the Gambling Commission said: “It was a pleasure to welcome the Swedish Gambling Authority (Spelinspektionen) to our Birmingham office last week.“As we continue our collaboration with regulators across the world, we’re grateful to work with international colleagues to ensure that gambling is made safer, fairer and crime-free for all.”
This meeting supports recent comments by Tim Miller, Executive Director of the Gambling Commission, who said that the authority would be working together with other organisations to collaborate on a global scale.
