Imagine Live begins development on Romanian live studio

Live casino company Imagine Live has announced plans to develop a new studio in Romania. The provider intends to establish its new studio in the capital city of Bucharest, where the company plans to develop classic table games, game shows and ‘innovative live dealer experiences.’

The company received its Type 1 Maltese gaming licence from the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) back in December. This licence covers games of chance including blackjack, classic roulette and baccarat, with the MGA licence giving Imagine Live regulated access to markets in Finland, Germany and Poland among others.

In this latest move, Imagine Live will now add Romania to its list of European domains.

Romania has become a popular iGaming destination in recent years, with a notable surge in activity spotted in the past two months. Companies including Octoplay, Hacksaw Gaming and BGaming have expanded their presence in the market through new collaborations with regional operators, with this reflecting just a sample of the activity seen in the market.

In the February print edition of Trafficology, we spoke with an intellectual property lawyer and member of the Romanian National Chamber of Intellectual Property Attorneys Anna-Maria Baciu. She explained how, of the 475 Class 2 licences issued by the Romanian National Gambling Office (ONJN): “There are between 140 and 150 licences issued for software/game suppliers, with around 25 issued in 2023 alone.”

However, she also stressed how increased taxation could impact the market going forward.

On the upcoming studio, Imagine Live Romania CEO Pavel Maria said: “At Imagine Live, we are dedicated to pushing the boundaries of live dealer games and the investment of a new studio in Romania is a testament to that commitment.

“Romania provides an ideal backdrop for innovation in the gaming sector and our new studio, which will be located right in the heart of Bucharest, will undoubtedly elevate the live casino experience for players.”
