In a survey commissioned by Coral between 21-24 February 2025, 46% of the 1,001 sports fans polled admitted they would lie to their employer to watch or attend the Cheltenham Festival.
The survey also revealed 26% would skip a family event for the races, 48% would watch secretly at work, and half viewed the Cheltenham Festival as a bigger event than the Champions League, Six Nations or British Grand Prix.
The four-day Festival will conclude next Friday with the Cheltenham Gold Cup. Galopin Des Champs, heavy favourite in the race, aims to win the race for a third time in a row.
To commemorate the Cheltenham Festival, which begins on Tuesday 11 March 2025, Coral has launched a giant inflatable Gold Cup above Cleeve Hill, using 60m² of air. This would be the equivalent of 900 party balloons.
Good to know: According to the survey, Cheltenham Festival ranks as the third favourite sports event for UK fans (50%), behind the FA Cup Final (60%) and Wimbledon (54%)
Coral’s David Stevens commented: “Whilst we would never condone lying to the boss, we do understand that the Cheltenham Festival is such a special event, some people might tell a fib in order to follow the action!
“It’s always a great week, but this year we have Galopin Des Champs going for the Gold Cup hat-trick, something only four horses have previously achieved, so next Friday’s feature race really will be too big to miss, a bit like the giant Gold Cup we flew over Cleeve Hill!”
