Key points:

– £10m has been awarded to 13 projects supporting nature conservation across Wales

– Initiatives focus on habitat restoration, species protection and environmental training

The Welsh Government has allocated £10m ($13m) through the Nature Networks Fund, supporting 13 projects aimed at restoring and strengthening protected landscapes across Wales.

The funding will help revive ecosystems, train conservationists and engage communities in nature recovery efforts.

Among the beneficiaries, National Trust Cymru has been awarded £971,888 to enhance habitats within Bannau Brycheiniog National Park. The project will focus on restoring 500 hectares of land while offering training opportunities in countryside management at a dedicated hub at Ty Mawr farm.

Other projects benefiting from the latest round of funding include a £987,929 grant to the Vincent Wildlife Trust, which will work with young people to construct twenty bat towers to support the lesser horseshoe bat population.

Dr Beynon’s Bug Farm has received £643,000 to enhance the North West Pembrokeshire Commons Special Area of Conservation and establish a Nature Recovery Teaching Centre.

Additionally, the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority has been awarded £995,542 to restore a variety of habitats, including grasslands, heathlands, bogs, woodlands and coastal areas – while also providing conservation training for volunteers and landowners.

Commenting on the recent investment, Deputy First Minister Huw Irranca-Davies stated: “This significant investment demonstrates our ongoing commitment to protecting Wales’ natural heritage.

“By supporting these 13 diverse projects across our nation, we’re not only preserving precious ecosystems but also empowering communities to become stewards of their local environments.

“The Nature Networks Fund is a crucial tool in our response to the nature emergency, helping us build a more resilient Wales for future generations.”

This funding follows a £2.7m investment earlier this year into eleven additional conservation projects.
