CTO
Sony Sports
Matthew Saxon, the CTO at Sony Sports, is an industry professional with a 30-year history in IT and gaming. He has held positions with Sportradar, GiG and Sony Sports.
Throughout his career, Saxon has had experience in organisational change, having been through three IPOs and involved with numerous mergers & acquisitions, including experience of both acquirer and target.
He has also led the development of various mobile-first strategies, ensuring products are accessible and user-friendly across various devices. With his long-term experience in the field, Saxon has seen a wide variety of technological innovations and trends.
Saxon’s journey in the tech world began some three decades ago, where he honed his skills in software development and IT infrastructure. His first notable role was as a Technical Architect at Woolwich, beginning in September 1993 and ending nearly a decade later in March 2003.
Following this Saxon took up another decade-long Technical Architect role, this time at Barclays. Concluding in July 2013, he then moved on to become Lead Infrastructure Architect at HSBC Global Banking, working for four months in London.
After this, Saxon spent a year as a Senior Consultant at PwC, before joining Worldpay in February 2015 as Lead Enterprise Architect – Applications. After three years in this role he moved on to become the company’s Head of Enterprise Architecture UK, working in this position from February 2018 to July 2019.
Following this, Saxon made his entry into the gaming market, joining Sportradar as SVP, Technology Strategy & Architecture. He held this role for four years until November 2023, when he became CTO – Platform and Sportsbook at GiG.
Saxon stayed with GiG for just under a year before transitioning to Sony Sports, where he also works as CTO. Here, he is responsible for Hawk-Eye, Pulselive, Beyond Sports & KinaTrax.
