The Star Sydney to increase capacity to 5,000 amid eased restrictions

The Star Entertainment Group has announced that it will increase the capacity at its flagship property The Star Sydney to 5,000 people across the casino area.

The decision comes as the New South Wales (NSW) Government announced an easing in operational restrictions in place due to COVID-19.

Restrictions across the Greater Sydney region have been eased, meaning hospitality venues will no longer be subject to the 300 patron cap per area rule as of Friday 29 January 2021. The one person per four square metres rule will, however, remain in place.

Based on the scale of The Star Sydney, it is permitted to host up to 5,000 patrons at any one time.

“These restrictions are similar to those that applied to the property from 1 July 2020 to 23 July 2020. One difference is the current mandatory wearing of masks in gaming rooms,” a statement from The Star Entertainment Group read.

“The Star remains committed to the health, safety and wellbeing of its team members and guests,” the operator added.

The NSW Government also announced that it expects the one person per four square metres rule to switch to a one person per two square metres rule in two weeks, should the number of COVID-19 cases continue to decline.
