Kansspelautoriteit amends match fixing and money laundering rules

The Netherlands Gaming Authority (Kansspelautoriteit) has amended its rules on match fixing and money laundering ahead of the opening of the country’s gambling market in April 2021.

netherlands guidelines

The body has updated the Act on the Prevention of Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing (Wwft), as it had previously only applied to the gaming casinos of Holland Casino, which is currently the only licence holder in the country for offering casino games.

But the Gaming Authority has now announced new provisions ahead of the forthcoming legalisation of online games of chance. The Remote Gaming Act (Koa) will come into effect on 1 April 2021, meaning applications for an online gaming licence can be submitted from that date.

The new measures give games of chance providers tools to comply with the obligations arising from the Wwft, which can also be used to assist in drawing up documents for the application for a Koa permit.

The amended Wwft Guideline was previously submitted to a number of parties for consultation, with the responses used to clarify certain aspects.

One major change to the Wwft Guideline after the consultation involves the addition of the risk of match fixing, with issues such as crediting and debiting the gaming account without undue delay, and identification and verification also discussed.
