Resorts World Genting reopens after temporary closure

Genting Malaysia has announced the reopening of its flagship Malaysian integrated resort, Resorts World Genting (RWG), two days earlier than planned.

RWG closed its doors on 22 January 2021 after a Movement Control Order (MCO) was issued by the government in a bid to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. That temporary closure was scheduled until 4 February, but was extended to 18 February amid another MCO issued by the government.

But RWG opened its doors again on 16 February, two days ahead of schedule, with non-gaming properties Resorts World Langkawi and Resorts World Kijal also reopening. Resorts World Birmingham and all other-land based UK casinos, however, will remain temporarily closed until further notice.

“Some of our hotels, facilities, attractions and other offerings will be subjected to revised operating hours, limited availability or temporary closure,” a statement from RWG read.

“We will continue to fully adhere to the strict SOPs issued by the government throughout the resort and we seek our guests’ cooperation to do the same. The safety and health of all our guests and employees remain our utmost priority.”

RWG initially closed from 18 March until 19 June 2020 following the outbreak of COVID-19 and the implementation of an MCO by the government.
