Crown’s Barangaroo casino approved for interim liquor licence

Crown Resorts has announced that the New South Wales Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority (ILGA) has approved three interim liquor licences for Crown’s Barangaroo resort.

The new liquor licences to the Crown Sydney property will allow the venue to carry on serving alcohol in non-gaming areas, including bar areas and two ground floor restaurants, beyond the expiry of the current liquor licences. The new licences have been granted for the period 1 May 2021 to 31 October 2021.

“Crown is continuing to work through the consultation process with ILGA as it seeks to restore regulatory confidence in its operations and give effect to the Restricted Gaming Licence in Sydney,” said Helen Coonan, Crown executive chairman.

“Crown welcomes ILGA’s approval of the new liquor licences for Crown Sydney Property Pty Ltd which will allow guests to continue to enjoy the non-gaming facilities at Crown Sydney as we work through this process.”

“Late last year, ILGA agreed to work with Crown Resorts to enable the opening of accommodation, restaurants, bars and entertainment areas,” said ILGA chair Philip Crawford, but he noted that the regulator is still assessing Crown’s responses to the issues discussed in the Bergin Report.

“Crown is required to undertake significant change to satisfy the Authority that it is on a pathway to regain suitability to hold a gaming licence,” added Crawford.

While the Sydney venue received a new licence, Crown faces some challenges with the Perth casino. The group announced the casino will be closed from 27 April to 1 May, complying with the 3-day lockdown of the Perth metropolitan area and Peel region.

Crown Perth will suspend gaming activities, food & beverage, theatre, banqueting and conference facilities, but the hotel will remain operational at reduced capacity.
