DraftKings enters blockchain agreement with Polygon

Polygon, the Ethereum-based scaling platform, has announced a blockchain collaboration with DraftKings Marketplace; the Marketplace is a digital collectable ecosystem for mainstream accessibility built by DraftKings to support secondary market transactions and custom NFT drops.

The deal aims to provide a scalable, eco-friendly blockchain solution, expanding Marketplace’s capabilities and providing the potential to contribute to Polygon’s administration.

Paul Liberman, Co-Founder and President of Global Product and Technology at DraftKings, said: “Scalability and sustainability remain among the critical challenges of blockchain technology, so as we lay the groundwork today for the vision of DraftKings Marketplace tomorrow, the vast insights and proven products from Polygon around scalable solutions are invaluable.

“Although DraftKings Marketplace is still in its nascency, we are bullish on the possibilities that blockchain, NFTs, cryptocurrency and more will present as we prepare for Web 3.0 alongside Polygon and the new innovations ahead for digital collectibles.”

This agreement allows DraftKings to participate in the proof-of-stake consensus protocol for the polygon blockchain main network, with the option of becoming a validator. The operator will be able to join Polygon’s governance, contribute to network security and produce blocks as a leader in Polygon’s future.

Since the launch, DraftKings Marketplace is already available to millions of registered DraftKings customers across Canada and the US, hosting Autograph’s Preseason Access Collection MFT drops, including athletes such as Tom Brady, Wayne Gretzky, Simon Biles, Derek Jeter and Naomi Osaka a complete sell-out already.

DraftKings Marketplace is widely available to the millions of customers registered to DraftKings; this blockchain collaboration will enable them to eventually transfer purchased NFTs to their own wallets of Ethereum Mainnet.

Sandeep Nailwal, Co-Founder at Polygon, said: “Leveraging Polygon’s technology, DraftKings will be able to expand the variety and capabilities of DraftKings Marketplace for an enhanced user experience with even more exclusive content and drops.

“DraftKings Marketplace already provides fans and collectors with a seamless way to buy and resell authentic digital collectibles within a highly accessible ecosystem, so we look forward to being part of its continued growth.”

With a focus on boosting awareness around NFTs, and furthering its adoption, Polygon is expanding its brand into the blockchain gaming and NFT space; with infrastructure supporting over 100,000 blockchain gamers, contributing to high-quality gaming experiences.
