Arizona reports $50m in GGR from nearly $470m in November wagers

Arizona’s sportsbooks reported nearly $470m in wagers and over $50m in gross gaming revenue for the month of November.

According to PlayAZ, the state has become the quickest to hit $1bn in handle after launch.

Arizona online and retail sportsbooks produced $466.7m in wagers for November, down 4% from October. Analysts considered it to be a modest drop, since October offered five full weekends of NFL and college football games.

During November, betting volume averaged $15.6m in wagers per day, marginally down from $15.7m in betting per day for October.

Gross gaming revenue (GGR) for November was up 27% compared to the previous month. After $18.4m in promotional credits, the state taxed $31.9m in gross event wagering receipts, which produced $3.2m in privilege fees for the state.

For the year, the state’s sportsbooks collected $1.2bn in wagering, making Arizona the quickest to $1bn in US history.

Gross revenue for 2021 was $121.2m, which was the most of any state over its first three months. Arizona’s sportsbooks also produced $4.2m in privilege fees for the state.

Online sportsbooks generated 98% of the state’s handle, with retail sportsbooks accounting for $7.4m in wagers.

DraftKings topped the market with $148.7m in wagers; that was down from $120.8m for October.

FanDuel came in second with $118m and BetMGM followed with $93.2m in wagering.

The leaders were followed by Caesars, Barstool WynnBet, Rush Street, TwinSpires and Unibet.

With the launch of SuperBook Sports and Fubo Sportsbook in December 2021, and SaharaBets in January 2022, Arizona is now home to 12 sportsbook operators.
