Casino specialist Pragmatic Play entering sportsbook vertical

Pragmatic Play, the iGaming content provider, is launching a new sportsbook.

Available through a single API, the sportsbook platform will offer competitions, markets and events while providing access to official data from major events such as the EPL, ATP Tour, NBA and the NFL.

Through a templated UI, customers will receive targeted content to meet their localised needs. This will be achieved through CMS-driven content and a translation service in various languages.

This sportsbook stands as the fifth vertical offered by Pragmatic Play, following slots, live casino, bingo and virtual sports; its aim is to be seen as a leading one-stop-shop for all iGaming operators.

It is a rather late entry to the sportsbook vertical and it will be interesting to see how well the company performs in this vertical, given its prior specialism in online casino.

Yossi Barzely, Pragmatic Play Chief Business Development Officer, said: “The launch of our sportsbook marks an incredibly proud moment for Pragmatic Play.

“We are not shy of adding new verticals to our offering if we believe we can be a differentiator, and by entering the sports betting space we’re now able to offer a complete one-company solution for operators looking to establish themselves or progress to new heights.”

Gareth Crook, Pragmatic Play VP of Sportsbook, added: “Our team has worked tirelessly over many months to build a product we feel highlights our aim of being the leading content provider within our sector. The addition of our sportsbook product is a further step along in our mission and we intend on adding a high quality and trustworthy product.

"We have an experienced and market-oriented team driving us forward and we’ve already had significant interest expressed in our sportsbook from multiple markets. We cannot wait to bring great betting experiences to players around the world!”

Back in February, Pragmatic Play doubled its live casino offerings by enhancing its baccarat and speed baccarat games. In addition, the company agreed on a new partnership with BPlay to extend its presence in Buenos Aires and the Argentinian market.

But it is this move into sports betting that will no doubt create the most interest for the supplier. Will Pragmatic Play successfully bolster its offering, or could this move spread the provider a little thinly across all its verticals?
