A poll conducted on Twitter, which had 783 respondents, asked the question: “With the Premier League set to bring in a voluntary ban on front-of-shirt gambling sponsorship, do you think Brentford FC should continue with commercial partnerships with gambling firms?”
A total of 69.5% of respondents said the club should not continue such partnerships, with 23.5% saying it should continue such partnerships, while 7% replied with the answer “don’t know.”
Premier League club Brentford are currently sponsored by Hollywood Bets, with the gambling firm’s logo on the front of the club’s shirt. The deal is set to conclude in 2024.
Gambling sponsorship in football is one of the main areas that is currently being discussed in the UK Government’s review of the Gambling Act 2005. It is believed that the Premier League will hold a meeting today to discuss the topic, with all 20 clubs set to vote on how to proceed.
BIAS noted that Brentford should vote in favour of gambling products being discontinued, saying: “Having a gambling addiction can harm your health and relationships. It can also leave you in serious debt.
“Brentford Football Club’s values are rooted in the community and it’s now time to call an end to its consumer gambling partnerships.”
Fellow Premier League club Fulham has received similar views from some of its fans, but the club has seemingly ignored such views after earlier this week signing a record sponsorship with betting firm W88 as a Front of Shirt and Main Team Partner for the upcoming season.
