PointsBet granted provisional sports wagering certificate in Kansas

Subject to receipt of final launch authorisation from the state, PointsBet will launch its sportsbook operations in Kansas on 1 September 2022.

Sports betting in Kansas was legalised in May 2022, when state Governor Kelly signed both online and retail betting into law.

The start of September will mark a soft launch for sports betting in the state, with the state officially launching sports betting operations on 8 September, in line with the first NFL game of the season.

The operator secured market access in Kansas via a primary skin agreement with Kansas Crossing Casino LC. The company operates the Kansas Crossing Casino and Hotel in the four-state area, a short distance from the Oklahoma, Missouri and Arkansas borders.

Kansas will represent PointsBet’s 11th online sportsbook operation in the US, following previous launches in New Jersey, Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, Colorado, Michigan, West Virginia, Virginia, New York and Pennsylvania.

PointsBet Group CEO and Managing Director Sam Swanell said: “We are excited to be launching on the starting line and having our outstanding sportsbook product available to the people of Kansas from day one.

“With NFL season kicking off on 9 September, the timing is perfect to showcase our NFL in-play betting capabilities in particular.”

PointsBet is a corporate bookmaker listed on the Australian Stock Exchange with operations in Australia, the US, Canada and Ireland.

In July this year, the operator posted strong end-of-year and Q4 results for 2021
