The company is likely hoping a fresh face will also bring fresh ideas as it eyes expansion. Sunderland will serve as Senior Vice President of iGaming at Caesars, where he will help to execute its plans for growth.

To this end, Sunderland will need to leverage his experience in iGaming, an industry he has worked in for more than two decades.

During his career, Sunderland has held multiple senior leadership roles, including a two-year tenure as BetMGM’s Vice President of Gaming.

Prior to this, he served as an online gaming consultant for BetMGM, and before that, as Marketing, Digital & Product Consultant for Online Gaming at MGM Resorts.

Sunderland has also worked for GVC, now Entain, and International Game Technology (IGT), where he served as Group Digital & Marketing Director.

Beyond the world of gaming, he was Head of Commercial Marketing for media giant CNN between 2000 and 2003. Sunderland will assume his new role at Caesars on 1 October.

Regarding his appointment, President of Caesars Digital Eric Hession said: “We’re thrilled to have Matt join the Caesars team.

“His deep experience and successful track record will be a tremendous asset as we continue to grow our iGaming and sports betting business. We’re looking forward to what we can accomplish together with Caesars Sportsbook & Casino.”

The company launched Caesars Sportsbook & Casino in April 2021, which is currently live in Michigan, New Jersey, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ontario and now Kansas.
