HISTORY - Lottomatica

Founded in 1990 as Lottomatica, the company initially focused on lottery games. In 2006, Lottomatica acquired Gtech Corporation for a total of $4.7bn and changed its name to Gtech.

Once the company operated under the name Gtech, it would expand to manage several state and provincial lotteries within the US, as well as lotteries across Europe, Australia, Latin America, Asia and the Caribbean.

In 2015, Gtech acquired IGT for $6.4bn, changing its name to IGT after the merger.

HISTORY - IGT

William "Si" Redd founded the company in 1975 under the name A-1 Supply, changing its name to Sircoma in 1978 and once again to IGT in 1981.

In 1984, IGT acquired Electronic Data Technologies, which was the company responsible for the computerised player tracking concept that led to player rewards programmes.

This wasn't the first innovative product seen from IGT, though. In 1986, IGT launched the world's first wide-area linked-progressive slot-machine system, with the Nevada Megabucks slot machine. It debuted with a base jackpot of $1m.

A decade later, in 1996, IGT would launch the Wheel of Fortune progressive slot, which still remains a highly popular title today. In 2023, IGT would launch the first omnichannel wide-area progressive link in the US with Wheel of Fortune Slots in New Jersey.

IGT would launch its first wide-area progressive video poker games in New Jersey in 1999.

By 2003, IGT had acquired Barcrest Gaming, Sodak Gaming, Silicon Gaming, Anchor Gaming and Acres Gaming.

Wagerworks was purchased by IGT in 2005 for $90m, which had a number of established customers including Paddy Power, William Hill and Betfair.

Over the next 10 years, IGT would continue to expand globally. The company opened offices in Macau, Mexico and Russia and would also open the Global Technology & Interoperability Center in Reno, Nevada.

In 2014, Gtech agreed to acquire IGT for $6.4bn, comprised of $4.7bn in cash and $1.7bn in assumed debt. As part of the deal, the companies would combine operations in a shared office in the UK and work under the IGT name.

Recently, IGT completed its acquisition of iSoftBet, an iGaming content provider and third-party game aggregator, for $160m.
