As Safer Gambling Week nears its end, Ygam CEO Dr Jane Rigbye has taken this opportunity to reflect on the campaign and her organisation’s work.

She stressed the importance of responsibility and said “the aims and objectives of Safer Gambling Week should be at the heart of everything the industry does every day of every week, all year round.”

However, while Rigbye acknowledged that “concerted efforts to raise awareness and open the conversation” have been undertaken, she believes much more work must still be done.

To this end, Ygam forms what Rigbye called “a small piece of a much larger jigsaw.”

The charity’s services can and do play a role in gambling harm reduction, she said, but a collaboration between all concerned parties is required to truly make an impact.

“More needs to be done to reduce gambling harms and a collaborative approach is the most efficient way to achieve this,” Rigbye said.

“This includes commitments from government, regulators, operators, charities, trade bodies, academics and all those working tirelessly to prevent gambling harms. Alone we can do a little; together we can do so much.”

Rigbye took over as Ygam’s Chief Executive in January after Co-Founder and former CEO Lee Willows decided to step down in October 2021.

In other news, Ygam, alongside Fast Forward and GamCare, launched a new education framework in late September to teach young people about gambling harm.
