Customers who download the DraftKings Sportsbook App, pre-register and opt-in before sports betting goes live in Maryland will receive $200 in free bets on launch day. Moreover, five customers who sign up early will be chosen at random to receive a $100,000 free bet on launch day.
Maryland’s first retail sportsbook opened back in 2021, with the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency Director saying the state will launch online sports betting in Autumn 2022. Legislation in Maryland will allow for up to 60 mobile licences.
“In anticipation of mobile sports betting going live in Maryland, pending licensure and regulatory approvals, residents in the state will have access to legal and regulated opportunities to place bets across various sports including football, basketball, hockey and more,” a statement from DraftKings read.
The operator also touched on the importance of responsible gambling, noting: “A legalised and regulated sports betting market is the safest option for consumers. DraftKings continues to educate bettors about the dangers of illegal and offshore markets, providing customers with helpful resources to bet responsibly.”
The sign-up bonus in Maryland follows an announcement last week from DraftKings noting that it will offer $200 in free bets to Ohio-based customers who sign up before sports betting goes live in the state on 1 January 2023.
Despite reporting a net loss of $217.1m for Q2 2022 and $305.5m for Q1 2022, the operator’s high-risk acquisition model is seemingly not stopping as new states legalise sports betting.
