The annual award, sponsored by professional services giant Ernst & Young (EY), has been presented to Koerl for 2022.

Since 1986, EY has recognised select individuals as being worthy of the distinction for their entrepreneurial achievements.

Koerl, who has led Sportradar since the business was founded in 2001, has now become the latest in a long line of recipients.

An independent panel of judges selected the executive “based on his entrepreneurial spirit, purpose, growth and impact,” among other competencies and attributes.

“I am incredibly honoured to win this prestigious award,” said Koerl. “I celebrate this accomplishment with the entire team.

“I am proud that we are recognised for the impact that our innovative and visionary technology products have on the sports ecosystem.

“But we are just at the beginning of our journey as the sports, media and betting industries converge with Sportradar at the centre of this massive market.”

During his tenure, Koerl has overseen Sportradar’s transition from a start-up to a major player in the world of sports data and technology.

Today, the firm is a publicly listed company on the Nasdaq that employs more than 3,500 people and serves more than 1,700 clients in over 120 countries.

This year also marks the 25th time EY has decorated a Swiss entrepreneur in Switzerland.

A 10-member jury was responsible for judging the finalists in four categories. Koerl won the award in the “Service & Commerce” category.
