BCorp certification verifies that a business is operating to high social, legal and environmental standards as well as exhibiting transparency in its dealings.
BLab is the organisation responsible for analysing companies through the certification process, looking at all levels of their operations. It accounts for a company’s business structure and information about operations and various work processes, as well as a review of potential public complaints and possible site visits.
On the legal side, Gamban had to prove that its corporate governance structure was accountable to all stakeholders, not just shareholders. For social and environmental standards, Gamban had to achieve a ‘B Impact’ assessment score of 80 or above to pass BCorp’s risk review.
The impact of BCorp certification on smaller companies can be substantial. It builds trust with consumers, communities and suppliers; attracts and retains employees; and draws the interest of potential investors.
Gamban was founded in 2015 and was an early player in the gambling-blocking software industry. It claims to offer effective software for blocking gambling sites and applications with the priority of preventing problem gambling.
In 2018, GambleAware commissioned independent research to evaluate the efficiency of blocking software and to compare existing products. Gamban was named as the ‘most effective’ and, as a result, it has been provided free of charge through all Gamcare support networks in the UK.
Gamban will be required to undergo the verification process every three years to recertify.
