After the Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl on Sunday, FanDuel gave over $34m in Bonus Bets to its customers, despite Rob Gronkowski missing his ‘Kick of Destiny’ by only an inch.

The premise was if Gronkowski could score the 25-yard field goal on his first attempt, FanDuel would pay its customers a share of the $10m prize in free bets. However, FanDuel still chose to pay out anyone who had placed $5 on the Super Bowl LVII match.

“Juuuuust a bit outside,” FanDuel account tweeted out, “Gronk's kick was no good, but we're still giving everyone who qualified a piece of $10,000,000 in Bonus Bets!”

Despite the kick missing, fireworks were set off on the pitch and the runs rushed forward to celebrate with Gronkowski. Since the kick, Gronkowski has gone to Twitter to thank his fans, as well as FanDuel.

“Thank you to FanDuel for backing me up and still giving out the $10m”, Gronkowski said in an interview with FanDuelTV, “I’m gonna have to have a redemption someday… I’ve gotta make up for it.”

The historic Super Bowl game drew in a massive audience for the FanDuel platform, with over 2 million people active during the game. During the peak moments of the match, there were over 50,000 bets placed per minute.

FanDuel is an industry giant that offers horseracing, daily fantasy sports, sportsbook and online casino.

In fact, parent company Flutter Entertainment just today announced it is considering being listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
