The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement has released the state's gaming revenue figures for January 2024, shedding light on its performance at the outset of the new year compared to this time last year.
According to the Division's report, the total casino win for the nine casino hotel properties in January 2024 was $205m. This represents a slight decrease of 3.1% compared to the same period in 2023 when the reported casino win stood at $211.7m.
In contrast, internet gaming win grew from last year, with reported revenues reaching $183.3m. This marks an increase of 19.9% compared to January 2023, with the internet gaming win totalling $152.9m.
A surge was witnessed in sports wagering gross revenue, which reported an increase of 136.1% year-on-year. The reported sports wagering gross revenue for January 2024 amounted to $170.8m, up from the $72.3m reported in January 2023.
Combining the revenues from casino win, internet gaming win and sports wagering gross revenue, the total gaming revenue for January 2024 in New Jersey stood at $559.1m. This reflects an increase of 28% from the $436.9m reported this time last year.
In 2023, annual total gaming revenue increased 10.9%, reaching $5.78bn. December 2023 also showed a positive trend, with total gaming revenue reported at $522.2m, marking a 14.8% increase from December 2022.
Throughout 2023, internet gaming and sports wagering continued to demonstrate growth, with online gaming revenues reaching $1.9bn and sports wagering revenues surpassing the billion-dollar mark at $1.01bn.
