Racing With Pride: British horseracing celebrates inclusivity
Local LGBTQ+ groups, including the York RI Templars rugby club, participated in the celebrations

British horseracing marked Pride Month with the fifth edition of its annual Pride raceday at York Racecourse, organised in partnership with Racing With Pride and the British European Breeders’ Fund (EBF).
Racing With Pride, the LGBTQ+ network for British racing, welcomed members of the York RI Templars, a local inclusive rugby club and representatives from the York Pride committee for a day of community engagement and visibility.
The event included the opportunity to judge the ‘best-turned-out’ horse, celebrate the victory of Easy Peeler in the Racing With Pride-sponsored race and enjoy a guided visit to the start line.
David Letts, Chair of Racing With Pride, said: “These days provide much needed visibility for the network, as well as an opportunity to engage with wider communities to demonstrate racing’s commitment to being a sport for all to enjoy.”
He added that attendees unfamiliar with racing were positively surprised by the welcoming atmosphere, challenging preconceived notions about the sport’s accessibility and inclusiveness.

Founded in 2020, Racing With Pride offers a platform for LGBTQ+ staff, fans and allies across the sport.
