– Cumulative GGR for January to August 2025 reached MOP163.05bn, up 7.2% year-on-year

– Nevada also reported its results for July, as gaming revenue rose 4% to $1.36bn

Macau’s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) has released gross gaming revenue (GGR) figures covering the period January through August 2025.

August performance

In August 2025, GGR totaled MOP22.16bn. This represents a 12.2% increase compared with MOP19.75bn in August 2024, making it Macau’s highest monthly gaming revenue since the pandemic.

August’s revenue followed several strong mid-year months, further contributing to positive year-to-date totals.

Nevada comparison

The Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) also released the state’s total gaming activity for July 2025 on Friday, as revenue increased 4% year-on-year to $1.36bn, led by Clark County, Nevada which accounted for nearly $1.2bn of the total and rose 3.2%.

The Las Vegas Strip area of Nevada reported July 2025 gaming revenue of $749.1m, equating to an increase of 5.6%, as baccarat revenue grew 79% to $114.5m throughout the month.

Year-to-date totals

For January to August 2025, cumulative GGR reached MOP163.05bn, compared with MOP152.10bn during the same period in 2024. This represents an increase of 7.2% year-on-year.

Accumulated revenue rose steadily over the period, moving from MOP18.25bn in January to MOP37.99bn by February, MOP57.66bn by March and MOP76.51bn by April. By June, totals had grown to MOP118.77bn, before reaching MOP163.05bn by August.

Month-by-month breakdown

The start of 2025 was marked by a contraction in January, when GGR fell to MOP18.25bn, representing a 5.6% decline compared with the same month in 2024. This initial setback created a lower base for the remainder of the year.

In February, revenue recovered to MOP19.74bn, registering a 6.8% increase on a year-on-year basis. The rebound aligned with seasonal demand linked to the Lunar New Year period, which cou;d be tied to higher activity in Macau’s casinos.

March performance held steady at MOP19.66bn, posting a marginal 0.8% gain compared with March 2024. The result suggested stability but not yet a full acceleration in overall gaming activity.

April’s revenue reached MOP18.86bn, reflecting a 1.7% rise. The figure demonstrated modest but positive movement, maintaining the gradual upward trajectory that began in February.

There are notable figures in May, with revenue climbing to MOP21.19bn, a 5.0% increase from the prior year. Growth intensified further in June and July, when both months recorded 19.0% increases, with totals of MOP21.06bn and MOP22.13bn respectively.

By August, revenue reached MOP22.16bn, equating to a 12.2% year-on-year rise, sustaining the mid-year momentum.

Mid-year highlights

The strongest gains were recorded in June and July, both rising 19.0% year-on-year. These two months played a key role in lifting cumulative revenue above 2024 levels.

Despite a weaker start in January, the consistency of growth through the second quarter and mid-year ensured a positive year-to-date outcome.

Macau’s economy has been stable in June and July, with tourism and gaming keeping activity strong. But consumer confidence and property prices remain weak, showing that domestic demand is still slow to recover.
