Danish gambling market up 4% in Q2 2017

ark’s gambling market has seen a new period of record growth in the second quarter of 2017, rising 4% year-on-year.

In its latest regulatory filing, the Danish gambling authority, the Spillemyndigheden reported that Danish licensed operators generated DKK 1.46bn in the three months ending June 30, increasing from the DKK1.405bn reported in the same period of 2016.

The strongest area of growth during this period was in the online sector, where second quarter revenue grew by 16% from DKK359m in the second quarter of 2016 to DKK458m in the same period of 2017.

However revenue from online poker fell from a Q2 2016 figure of DKK37.1m to DKK33m during the second quarter of 2017. The Danish online poker market has been falling steadily since its Q1 2014 high of DKK47m.

Sports betting and land based gaming remained largely flat year on year, generating DKK522m and DKK387m, while Denmark’s seven land based casinos generated a stable DKK95.4m in the second quarter of 2017.

The Spillemyndigheden also revealed that the number of people choosing to utilise its ROFUS voluntary self-exclusion registry scheme has risen from 7,962 following its launch in October 2016 to over 11,367 individuals in September 2017.
