Manchester United coach considering legal action over Paddy Power advert

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is contemplating taking legal action against operator Paddy Power Betfair for using his image in a recent newspaper advert.

The Paddy Power brand used the Manchester United manager’s picture alongside a Brexit-themed message, which read: “Theresa, time to try the Norwegian model? Ole to be given the job full time 1/16.”

Solskjaer was shown the advert during an interview with Norwegian broadcaster, NRK, and reacted angrily about not being asked permission to use his image for betting advertisement purposes.

The Manchester United manager said: “It is a betting company. I should not have anything to do with it. I promise you I will send to my lawyer.”

Erik Flagan, Solskjaer’s lawyer, said: “This is legal. The use of personal images in a commercial context without the consent of the depicted is illegal both in Norway and England.

“In this type of case, it is common to first prohibit and demand compensation. This is done routinely on behalf of Solskjaer in all such cases.”
