Tilman Fertitta plans to build on Las Vegas Strip
By Matthew Nicholson

According to filings made by the Texas-based billionaire, there are plans to build a 43-story, 2,000-room hotel and casino on priorly purchased land – which initially cost $270m.

The Clark County Commission will consider the application plans later this month, with a meeting scheduled for 19 October; while Fertitta plans for the project to have multiple restaurants, a convention space, a wedding chapel, a 2,500-seater theatre and an auto showroom.

Jeff Cantwell, EVP of development at the business mogul’s namesake Fertitta Entertainment, said in a statement about the filing: “We have acquired a truly unique piece of real estate and are actively exploring this development opportunity. While we continue to go through the review and planning process, no firm decision has yet been made concerning our future plans.”

Fertitta currently owns the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas, the online division of which became the subject of an investigation last year by Juan Monteverde of Monteverde & Associates over DraftKings’ alleged violations of securities law.

In more recent news, the Golden Nugget Lake Charles Hotel and Casino announced that DraftKings had agreed to open a new retail sportsbook on the premises – which opened on 1 September.

The new location offers customers 3,200 square feet of TV screens playing live sports, 16 video poker machines, three blackjack tables, 300 lounge seats with VIP areas and 30 self-service kiosks spread across 12,000 square feet inside the Golden Nugget Lake Charles' casino.
