Genius Sports and FDC enter “skeletal tracking partnership” for Premier League
By Gambling Insider

Both companies forged an alliance in 2019 centred around Genius Sports’ Second Spectrum technology. They have now expanded this partnership to cover more tracking data.

“Technology continues to drive how data is collected, analysed and presented,” said Adrian Ford, FDC General Manager.

“Working with Genius Sports’ Second Spectrum technology enables Football DataCo to be at the cutting edge of what is possible, and we look forward to developing new ways of using data for our stakeholders.”

Genius Sports’ technology is already installed in every Premier League ground and will now capture “sub-second positional data” on every player and the ball.

Meanwhile, the company will work with FDC to “develop and exploit” skeletal tracking data for the top-flight English football league, fans of the sport, media partners and broadcasters.

Among the supposed benefits of this data, Genius listed “interactive metaverse applications.”

“This partnership is an important next step in demonstrating the way data and advanced technology can amplify storytelling and fan engagement,” commented Genius CEO Mark Locke.

“Genius has believed deeply in this vision for many years, which is now becoming a reality in partnership with Football DataCo and the Premier League.

“We’re incredibly excited to work on solutions to enhance how the most popular league in world soccer is consumed by millions of passionate fans worldwide.”

This comes not long after Genius Sports “clinched” a long-term extension to its data partnership with British online gambling firm bet365.
