PGA Tour revises gambling sponsorship regulations

The PGA Tour has decided to be more lenient with its regulations towards gambling sponsorships.

PGA Tour revises gambling sponsorship regulations

Gambling companies can now officially be considered for Official Marketing Partners (OMPs) on all of the PGA’s six tours.

Players are now able to be sponsored by bookmakers, allowing logos to be on their attire. The players were told about the change last week, which will take effect immediately.

The revision only applies to well-established casino companies, rather than those who purely focus on sports betting.

Companies such as William Hill and Bet365, for example, will not be allowed to sponsor players.

The PGA Tour is also looking to revise its regulations towards spirit brands. Players will be able to sport names or logos of distilled spirits on their clothing.

PGA Tour Senior Vice President, Andy Levinson, said: “We felt it was time to look at our policies, given the public perception around gaming, and to update those policies to be consistent with public sentiment.

“Sponsorship relationships with casinos and daily fantasy sports companies will generally be permitted. Any relationship must promote responsible gaming and be consistent with the Tour’s integrity efforts.”
