Macau casino revenue up 4% for February
Gross gaming revenue in Macau increased by 4% year-on-year, to MOP25.4bn ($3.14bn), in February.
Macau’s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau has released data showing February’s revenue was a growth from last February and also more than January 2019’s total of MOP24.9bn.
Casino revenue fell in January, contributed to by a smoking ban introduced at the start of 2019 and a lack of big-spending VIP players, according to the government.
This was the industry’s first decline in 29 months in Macau, while accumulated gross revenue is still down for the year as a result of January’s performance.
Another concern for operators in Macau is that four concessionaires’ licenses are due to expire in 2022, with two deals due to end at the beginning of 2020.
Currently, reports suggest over 80% of the government’s revenue is made through gambling, though it is said to be looking at other revenue streams such as tourism.
