Indiana sports betting takes a step closer, as bill heads to governor
The State of Indiana House has passed legislation to allow sports betting.
House Bill 1015 has now been sent to the governor, which, if approved, will allow one existing casino to move, a new one to open and will also legalise sports betting.
Rep. Todd Huston, the bill’s author, actually voted against it, disagreeing with parts of the revised bill.
The revised bill proposes to legalise sports betting at Indiana casinos starting 1 September, as well as setting a 9.5% tax rate on revenue from wagering.
The bill was passed with mobile wagering included, having initially been removed.
Betting on esports or amateur athletes under the age of 18 will remain prohibited.
The bill will now be put in front of Governor Eric Holcomb, who will have seven days to decide whether or not to ratify it.
Rep. Matt Lehman said: “We have done in this bill what is right. I’m a reluctant yes but there is more good in this than bad.”
