Sky Bet “to monitor” future horseracing meetings

Sky Bet’s Head of Sports PR, Michael Shinners, has told Gambling Insider the operator will be “continuing to monitor” future horseracing meetings, following the success of Frankie Dettori at Royal Ascot.

Dettori produced four winners on day three of the festival, with Shinners revealing Sky Bet “were looking down the barrel of the worst day in its history.”

Sky Bet was not the only operator to suffer, as Gold Cup winner Stradivarius, Dettori’s fourth winner, cost William Hill more than £2.5m ($3.1m) on that race alone.

As a result of Dettori’s success, Sky Bet took the decision to not accept Dettori multiples on the final day of the festival.

Sky Bet revealed it would be approaching every festival with great care, taking into consideration the volume of bets and its liability.

Shinners said: “We didn’t accept multiples on Saturday at Royal Ascot but I think it is fair to say now, we are monitoring the situation and taking each meeting on its merit and we will continue to do that.

“On a day-to-day basis, we are always looking at our liabilities. At Royal Ascot, because the volume of bets was so huge, we had to put a restriction on multiples on the Saturday.”
