Penn National sets launch date for sports betting at Iowa casino

Penn National Gaming will launch sports betting at Ameristar Casino Council Bluffs in Iowa on 15 August.

Located in the Amerisports Bar & Grill, the new sportsbook will be available to  Iowa and Nebraska residents.

Tim Dwight, a 10-year NFL veteran who featured in Super Bowl XXXIII, will place the first wager at the  casino.

Timothy J. Wilmott, CEO of Penn National, said: “Iowa is poised to become the first mid-western state to offer sports wagering since the federal ban was repealed last year.

“We appreciate the diligence of the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission that will allow us to begin offering this great new amenity at Ameristar Casino Council Bluffs prior to the kick-off of the football season.”

Paul Czak, General Manager at Ameristar Casino Council Bluffs, said: “Customers have been clamouring to place sports bets since the law passed earlier this year. We look forward to welcoming customers from across the region.”
