Some casinos and bingo halls reopened in Canada following Stage 2 of Alberta’s relaunch strategy as opposed to the previously predicted Stage 3. Table games, however, won’t be available.

Casinos will need to follow health and safety regulations such as disinfection of slot machines, physical distancing aided by provided markers, and one-way foot traffic in busy areas.

Mahajan stated it will likely mean additional costs for the casino, but necessities nonetheless. “First and foremost, our associates, our customers, whoever walks through our doors is of prime importance to us. So yes, if it is a little bit more expensive, so be it. It’s the new reality,” he said.

Other casinos will open its doors soon as well. The Yellowhead Highway venue will resume work this week while the Argyll Road casino delayed re-opening until August due to renovations. Vince Pao, executive director of marketing for Pure Canadian Gaming, said the casinos are preparing to comply with the regulations, but will likely operate at a reduced capacity.
