Hack shut Cache Creek Casino
Cache Creek Casino Resort, owned and operated by the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation, shut on September 20 citing a systems infrastructure failure. However, earlier this week the casino admitted the casino suffered a major computer systems disruption due to an external attack on the computer network.
The casino confirmed the investigation is still ongoing and stated, “The privacy of our guests and employees is our highest priority and we want to make certain they have some peace of mind. We are working closely with independent experts who regularly investigate incidents of this type to determine any risks to data security. Attacks like these are significant and can take weeks to research thoroughly.”
Cache Creek Casino didn’t provide an expected reopening date and will remain closed until all operations are restored. The casino is determined to strengthen the security of the business but warns that similar cyber attacks are becoming more frequent in the industry and similar cases of computer network attacks were reported by Las Vegas Sands in 2013 and MGM Resorts in 2019.
“If it is determined the personal information of guests or employees was exposed, we will notify affected individuals in writing,” the statement continued. The casino also promised to offer full pay and benefits for employees, whether they’ve been asked to report for their shifts or not.
